Collection: Tear Stain Solutions

What's the deal with tear stains?

Tear stains are a common issue in small and/or brachycephalic breeds including the Bichon Frisé, Shih Tzu, Bulldog, and Cocker Spaniels. There are many possible causes of tear stains including the environment, allergies, health, diet, water, and genetics. Whatever the case, the general consensus is that increased microbes in the tear duct are a major contributor of staining.

There are many products in the market to tackle tear stains including supplements, eye pastes, and whitening products:

  • Many supplements contain antibiotics which may effectively eliminate tear stains, but can cause side effects linked to repeated use, such as antibiotic resistance.

  • Clay and paste-based products act by keeping the affected areas dry, but will also dry out the coat, causing breakage and damage to the hair shaft, allowing future stains to penetrate the hair more easily.

  • Peroxide and bleach based products act by breaking through the hair shaft to chemically remove stains within, which inevitably damages the coat, leading to breakage and damage after repeated use.

THE SOLUTION?

Boosting your dog's immune system, increasing antioxidants, and reducing excess yeast and bacteria can help dramatically reduce unwanted stains and improve your pet's health as a whole. Sotaria offers tear stain solutions that targets the problem at the source while preventing further staining without the use of harsh chemicals and will not damage the coat.

BerryChic is a unique blend of natural ingredients that help reduce stain producing microbes. This natural supplement is also a great addition to you dog's balanced diet. This daily supplement is formulated using superfoods including Goji Berries, Blueberries, and Cranberries that not only reduces stain-producing microbes, but also improves your pet's overall health. This supplement is high in prebiotics which feed the beneficial microbiome in your dog's digestive system. These "good gut buddies" help fight off the harmful microbes and prevent them from taking over the digestive tract.

As we wait for the BerryChic supplement to do it's thing, we need to prevent further staining from taking hold. To prevent new stains from building in the coat, apply a thin layer of the Coat Defense Serum to affected areas. This moisturizing and protecting formula will create a barrier to prevent stains from penetrating the hair shaft, without drying the hair or causing discoloration. This products applies clear without leaving a chalky substance, and is gentle enough for daily use.

While the best course of action is to prevent stain from setting in the first place, existing stains can be lightened with the Sotaira Brightening Mask, an overnight treatment that gently and effectively lifts discolouration from the coat using a unique whitened activated charcoal formula.

For OPTIMAL RESULTS, we recommend using all 3 products to reduce existing staining, protect from further staining, and reduce the production of staining at the source!
